PLAYWRITING – Day 36
While I check homework: hand drawings filled with memories
Take out:
1. notes on the 4 steps of dramatization
2. “bell-ringing” scripts from the other day…
You all have step #4 covered…(the ringing bell is the theatricality).
Number a paper 1 – 4 and fill out any of the 4 steps that your script contains.
REMEMBER: 4 Steps of Dramatization
- Situation – A young man is killed in a hold-up.
- Conflict – (real or imagined) – gets sued – young man kills brother - suspect gets away – no evidence – suspect threatens young man’s family – suspect kidnaps family member of young man – young man’s identity is stolen –
- Character’s journey – the killer decides to turn himself in –
- Add theatricality (other than the bell) – The murder is remembered and re-enacted onstage from various witnesses.
Spoke about the nature of drama and what it would look like in a classic “breakup scene.”
By yourself or with a partner, write a “breakup scene” that includes all 4 steps…
the situation, conflict (real or imagined), journey, and theatricality
