ENGLISH – 3rd trimester – Day 21

·         Write down the following sentence: I ate the sandwich.

o   Introduced to Shakespeare’s use of unusual word order and its poetic advantage – re: “I ate the sandwich”

·         Looked at Shakespeare’s opening Prologue/sonnet to Romeo & Juliet (pg. 807) by reading it many different ways.

·         On a separate paper, using your phone or a dictionary, define the following18 words from the prologue…

o   dignity,      Verona,

o   grudge,      mutiny,

o   civil (1),     civil (2),

o   loins,          foes,

o   star-crossed,          misadventure,

o   piteous,      overthrows,

o   doth,          strife,

o   naught,      attend,

o   toil,            strive

Finish 18 definitions for tomorrow.

PLAYWRITING – Day 21

MANTRA:
Start as close to the end as possible.

 

·         VIDEO: Simon Stone - What is Theatre Capable Of – TEDxSydney (10 minutes)

·         This hour, sign onto Edmodo and take survey

·         On a separate paper, read over the “List of Values” and

1.      WRITE DOWN the 10 values which most resonate with you

§  If you don’t know what a word means, skip it.

2.      NEXT, prioritize your list in order of importance to you…

§  1 = most important

3.      Consider your 2 characters…

§  Using the “List of Values” write down several values that they possess that are NOT in your top 10.

4.      TURN IN TO BIN ON THE LARGE TABLE

·         FINISH…

1.      creating 5 possible scenarios for our 2 characters we wrote biographical sketches for…remember: character/goal/action/obstacle

§  Concrete goal (nothing abstract)

§  An action (that tells us what kind of person he/she is)

§  Obstacle (the other character? A value?)

PLAYWRITING homework:

Finish 5 scenarios and choose a favorite for tomorrow’s scripting session.
