ENGLISH - 1st trimester – Day 28

 

1.      Pick up this week’s vocabulary words (#4) on center table

2.      Take out your 15-word sentence from Friday.

3.      Write down these 7 labels into your NOTES:

o   1.when 2.who 3.which one 4.what kind 5.where 6.how 7.why

·         Remember the RULE:

o   When expanding your sentence, you may not ADD and an A, B, or C.

4.      Now, expand your 15-word sentence into a sentence of 35 words without losing the A, B, C (doer-doing-done to) structure.

5.      DEFINITION: Foreshadowing: planting clues about what will happen later in a story

o   Reviewed foreshadowing quotes we found before from “The Cask of Amontillado.”

6.      TO BE COLLECTED: Number a paper 1 – 10 and then below that, number it again 1 – 10. Then without writing on the handouts, complete the 2 “Foreshadowing” handouts on the center table on your paper.

7.      DEFINITION: Subtext: what we imagine a person is thinking while they say something else.

o   ADD TO the bottom of YOUR FORESHADOWING ANSWERS: Choose 20 different points in the story, beginning on pg. 288 and ending at “…the clamorer grew still.” (pg. 292) For each of your 20 points,

§  write down a line/sentence of the story…word for word, then

§  ADD SUBTEXT from Fortunato’s point of view.

·         Finish for homework.

 

ENGLISH homework:

 

Number a paper 1 – 20…choose 20 points in the story, beginning on pg. 288 and ending at “…the clamorer grew still.” (pg. 292) For each point, (a) quote the text and then (b) ADD SUBTEXT from Fortunato’s point of view.

 

Study for Friday’s vocabulary test (Lesson 4: elude, fallow, blight…)
