ENGLISH - 1st trimester – Day 24                                          
 
·         Write down:
o   5 characteristics/things that you like in other people and
o   5 that you dislike in other people
§  Rank your 5 dislikes in other people in order from 1 – 5.
·         #1 worst, 2nd worst, 3rd worst…
o   Then 5 that you dislike in yourself
 
·         Write your #1 dislike on an index card and keep it in your pocket until Tuesday.
o   Keep track of how many times you encounter it between now and then.

The killer in the story (“The Tell Tale Heart”) didn’t actually hate the man’s eye…but rather, the eye stood for something the man hates.
 
·         Write a personal-journal-style paragraph about the following:
o   None of us are certified killers, but how do you kind of “kill” the people you meet who have the characteristic that you dislike?
o   Like all of us, Poe had unfortunate things happen in his life…abuse, poverty, death of loved ones, loss. And like all of us, he got to choose how he was going to deal with these things.
o   Imagine a person who is unpleasant...
§  Do you follow your gut feeling about them every time you see or think of them or do you sometimes consider their unfortunate past before passing judgment on them?
 
·         Sort out next 11 flashcards (or master list PINK sheet) for this week’s PREFIX test
o   11 prefixes...
§  hypo- ………pro-
 
·         Using your table’s individual Poe notes, on a white board, write down your single best questions that you think will be on tomorrow’s test.
o   (This is the best way to study.)
o   As you take each other’s tests, add to your notes…
 
 

 
 
Homework:
·        
Keep track (on index card?) of how many times you see your negative characteristic in others between now and Tuesday.
·         Add any notes you want to your POE notes for tomorrow’s open-notes test.
·         Study for Friday’s fill-in-the blank Prefix test (the next 11 prefixes from “30-15-10” list) including the following prefixes from your sheet = hypo-, in-, inter-, mal-/male-, mis-, mono-, non-, ob-, omni-, preter-, pro-
