ENGLISH – 3rd trimester – Day 43

WARMUP: On a separate paper, complete the Post-Play Poll (below) – TO BE COLLECTED when you finish.

Choose 5 of 10 statements below and defend your position for each with at least 3 sentences of explanation.

1.      Piece of lined paper cut up into 10 slips

2.      Another piece of paper (to record your answers)

a.       Write each of the 10 characters on their own slip

b.      On the back of each slip, write 2 different reasons that some people would say this character was responsible for the tragedy of the play

c.       Next arrange your slips in the following pyramid-like order:  1,2,4,2,1 (record this order on your paper)

d.      Arrange them again in a single file order of 1 to 10 (record this order on your paper)

e.       Next, find another group’s top 2 slips that are different than yours.

                                                                                                  i.      Write a NEW SCENE (10 exchanges in script form)  for the play where their 2 top characters PREVENT THE TRAGEDY from occurring in the play.

Ex.

Romeo: blah blah blah

Lady Capulet: blah blah blah

Romeo: blah?

Lady Capulet:  no, blah!

Practice rehearsing your 10 lines of Romeo and Juliet for your recital on the 22nd

ENGLISH homework:

Work on Romeo & Juliet projects (including 10-line memorization piece) – DUE Tuesday, May 22 – focus on the following rubric:

·         The story = 20 points (thorough, appropriate interpretation of important story elements, proper length)

·         Creativity = 10 points (ideas are unique and enjoyable)

·         Effort = 10 points (project is thoughtful and well-prepared; shows considerable effort; looks complete)

·         Recital = 10 points (TYPED COPY and considerable effort shown in memorization of 10 lines of Romeo & Juliet)
You may NOT memorize from these 2 speeches: “Two households…” or “But soft, what light…”
