ENGLISH - 1st trimester – Day 29

1.      Collect homework: subtext 1-20…

2.   Complete 2a and 2b…it will be collected…

    1. Read the last paragraph of “The Cask of Amontillado” (page 292) and write down its meaning.

    1. While you read “Poe’s Final Days” (pgs. 298 – 301), write out a timeline that shows 7 key events that lead to Poe’s death.

    1. Turn in to teacher.

3.      Today you will be asked to write silly titles to books that do not exist. You will imagine all the characters from “The Cask of Amontillado” as authors of their own books. However, instead of Montresor writing about something he knows a ton about, like torture or wine, you will have him write books about things he clearly knows NOTHING about…like friendship, love, or forgiveness. BEFORE you write down the silly titles of these books, you must brainstorm 4 things we already know about each of the characters. Then, with your brainstorm of things they know tons about, you can create titles about things they know nothing about. For example:

  • Montresor
    • Brainstorm 4 things we know to be true about him…
      1. He is a terrible friend to Fortunato.
      2. He tortures Fortunato by pointing about the niter in the vault.
      3. He seeks revenge on Fortunato for injuring him.
      4. He does not forgive and forget what Fortunato has done to him.
    • Now, instead of Montresor writing books about any of the things he knows about, you are to create 2 (not 4) titles of books he obviously knows nothing about…for example…
      • Lasting Friendships for Every American Girl
      • Cooking Thanksgiving Dinner with Niter and Niceness
      • Living in Love: Creating a World of Second Chances
      • Forgiveness: The Best Part of Life

o  REMEMEBER: BEFORE you write down 2 silly titles for each character, you must brainstorm 4 things we already know about each of the characters…(40 total)…then create 2 silly book titles for each…(20 titles total)
