ENGLISH – 3rd trimester – Day 37 

1.      Finish reading Romeo & Juliet (2-3 pages) 

2.      FINAL PROJECT explained

3.      Before you begin your project…
    1. DUE MONDAY: Choose a position on one of the following THEMES and prove it in your project...
    2.         
      DIRECTIONS: You must take a stand on one of these themes and argue your side of it in your project.
       
      1. Boyfriends or girlfriends are more important than family.
      2. You should keep secrets from your parents.
      3. Teenagers don’t know what true love really feels like.
      4. Parents should approve of the people that you choose to date.
      5. Parents should not have a role in determining whom their children marry.
      6. A boyfriend or girlfriend is worth killing yourself over.
      7. You should know someone for at least a year before you marry them.
      8. Deceiving people temporarily is all right if it is for a good cause in the long run.
      9. Always be supportive of friends and family even if you disagree with their choices.
      10. Parents are ultimately responsible for their children’s choices.
      11. Love at first sight exists.
      12. It is all right to engage someone in a fight if they make offensive statements.
      13. It’s all right to resort to violence when the honor of friends or family is at stake.
      14. Gregory and Sampson of the Capulet household were right to fight Abram and Balthasar to uphold their house’s dignity.
      15. Romeo and Juliet experienced true romantic love the first night they met.
      16. Romeo and Juliet were right not to tell their parents about their forbidden love because it would have ended in more fighting.
      17. Lord Capulet should not have told Paris that Juliet would marry him without first consulting his daughter.
      18. Friar Laurence was right to marry Romeo and Juliet for the sake of ending the feud.
      19. The Nurse should not have told Juliet about her change of heart with regard to Juliet’s marriage to Romeo.
      20. Romeo and Juliet should not have gotten married, because of the obstacles standing in their way due to the feud.
      21. The Nurse and Friar Laurence should be held responsible for Romeo’s and Juliet’s deaths.
      22. Romeo and Juliet had alternatives to suicide by the play’s end.
      23. Mercutio made the right choice to stand up for Romeo when Romeo would not face Tybalt in a duel.
