ENGLISH - 1st trimester – Day 47

 

·         Take prefix test #4

 

AFTER TURNING IN YOUR TEST…

·         List 10 characteristics that you dislike in another person - things that would convince you that they will be NEVER your friend or things that would make them horrible to work with.

·         Next, list 10 characteristics that you like in other people

·         Introduce “Doubting Bully” concept for writing where we will PROVE our assertions on a fictional person named Muldoon…

a.       Muldoon is…____________. (Choose from list of the horrible characteristics)

                                                  i.      This is our CONCLUSION.

b.      Imagine someone right there arguing, “No, Muldoon is NOT a liar.”

c.       With words, prove to this bully that Muldoon is a liar by telling the story about something you saw Muldoon do one time that proves that Muldoon is a liar.

                                                  i.      Your goal is to silence him with words. (share with class)

·         Next, try the same with the following quote:

a.       “More than 400 of the 2,000 largest malls in the U.S. have closed in the past two years.”

b.      Add SHOW and DOUBTING BULLY

                                                  i.      Do NOT contradict (re: Monty Python)

                                                ii.      Instead, answer…

1.      Why might this matter to Americans? (pretend that it does)

·         Now, using CARDS 2, 3, 4 – read your opening sentence and do the same thing.

·         Watched 2 short news clips:

·         CHOOSE card 2 or 3….then using a copy of the facts from the film, write:

o   “According to the film Human Footprint (2008) …”

§  Next, write down a word for word fact that proves how Americans are making a huge, environmental impact (and put it in quotation marks).

o   Then, in 3 sentences, tell why Americans should care or why it might matter to Americans.
