ENGLISH - 1^st trimester – Day 46

 

·         WARMUP: Without using your notes, write about what you remember specifically about the film?

 

·         Your position in this paper is to agree with the filmmakers…so

o    …in 5 paragraphs (on your 5 cards)  - you are going to prove that Americans are making a huge, environmental impact.

·         CARD 1

o    Write the word “Imagine…”

§  Now, in several sentences, describe a scene from the video (in detail) that would shock someone and make them think that Americans are making a huge, environmental impact.

·         Explain “imagine” attention grabbers…

o    Next, in one sentence, write down what should be done about the problem

§  (without using we, I or me)

·         On cards 2 and 3:

o    From MEMORY (without looking at your notes) write down one of the things the film said that proves Americans are making a huge, environmental impact. (premise 1).

§  Do NOT use statistics. Keep them general, even if you remember the numbers or percentages.

o    Do the same on card 3. (premise 2)

·         CARD 4

o    Write down something that you have noticed about someone you know or some group of people that supports the idea Americans are making a huge, environmental impact.. (premise 3)

§  use doubting bully

·         CARD 5 – (4 sentences total)

o    Take out cards 2,3,4…

o    Read each card and pretend the doubting bully is an idiot that doesn’t understand.

§  For each card, reword each of your sentences on cards 2,3,4 and write them on card 5. One sentence each. (3 sentences total)

·         re-explain it to him.

o    Finally, if Americans were making LESS of an environmental impact, what would it look like?

§  “Imagine…(write up a little scenario)”

·         Return to cards 2,3,4

o    Read your statement on each. In several sentences, explain why this might matter. (use doubting bully)

·         CHOOSE card 2 or 3….then using a copy of the article, write:

o    “According to the film “Human Footprint”, …”

o    Next, write down a word for word fact that proves how Americans are making a huge, environmental impact (and put it in quotation marks).

§  In 3 sentences, tell why it might matter.
