ENGLISH – 2nd trimester – Day 2
· Finish your pre-play poll work from yesterday…5 of 12 statements…
a. Read the statement.
b. Write down the statement, word for word.
c. Without repeating the statement, write down 5 sentences that explains why you either agree or disagree with it.
· Do you need a textbook? If so, bring ID and PURPLE textbook to main office.
· Discussed the relative size of our individual and our collective worlds (according to geography (North/South/East/West and age)
· Discussed the tendency to NOT broaden our horizons…even in a safe place like the school cafeteria. Why would we choose the disadvantages over the advantages? We are going to start forming habits. Is avoiding people who are different/unknown to us going to be one of these life-long habits?
· Ask the members of one table to stand up and find someone in the room that they do not know. This will be your partner for this activity. Began “Case Study” work (to finish AND COLLECT FOR GRADE on Monday). After reading one of the case studies…
- Write down 3 reasonable solutions.
- For each of your 3 solutions, write the 2 advantages and 2 disadvantages.
- Decide which solution is best.
- In 8 sentences, tell what is likely to happen after your solution is carried out. In other words, what is the ending to your story. It must be believable.
- What will happen immediately?
- What will things be like in a week or two?
- How will things be affected in 10 or more years?
- Make sure both of your names are on it…then turn it in (on the center table).

PLAYWRITING – Day 2
· Make a list of 10 dramatic actions - actions you’ve witnessed or experienced from real life - actions such as an argument, a wedding, a food fight, an amazing sport’s moment (homerun, flip kick, backward somersault etc.), an arrest, a car accident, a state championship, an incredible loss, an incredible win.
o Choose your favorite
· Watch domino video
· Working backwards, add 9 dominoes to your favorite dramatic action (from above)
o In other words, your choice from above becomes the end of your play (the 10th domino) and you create the dominoes/steps that happen before the ending.
· Next, let’s say that #10 was NOT the end of your play but rather the ½ way point. Create the 10 dominoes that would come AFTER #10.
· Map your 20 dominoes on a plotline chart according to how compelling each domino seems to you.
· Yesterday we read that the author of the article was told to cut 20 pages of his script because he had too much plot.
o Let’s pretend we have too much plot and have to cut 15 of our dominoes. Choose the 5 to keep and map them.
o Share at your tables.
o Discuss as a class.
· Finally, choose one of the 2 following dominoes and write down the 9 dominoes that come before it…
o #10 The ghost was walking on the mountain top.
o #10 The beekeeper was dancing in the school.
